Research Interests:
Analysis, design, implementation and
evaluation of information systems; database management systems;
computer performance monitoring and evaluation; and library
automation. Recent research includes analysis of usage
patterns of Web-based information retrieval systems,
analysis of electronic document management systems,
cost tradeoff's in the use of electronic vs. paper copies of journals,
mathematical models of user
behavior with office information systems, analysis of the costs
of storage of library materials, and economic trends in academic
libraries. My monograph on the Design of Library Automation
Systems combines a conceptual approach to developing
catalogs, circulation systems, acquisitions systems, and serials
control systems with software that lets the reader
understand the concepts by building on the software tools I have
developed.
