Note to Prospective Students

This year, I am looking to work with students on a new research initiative on Climate, People, and Informatics. If you are interested in studying the information needs and behaviors of individuals and communities, and designing information tools to support them in their individual and collective efforts of climate change mitigation, adapation, or biodiversity conservation, then I invite you to apply to our PhD program.

At the School of Information, individual faculty members do not admit students directly. Admission decisions are made by a faculty committee, based on criteria such as your prior academic and research experience, research statement, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. In your research statement, please make sure to articulate why the School of Information is the right research environment, and at least one other faculty member in the school who could also advise or co-advise you based on your research interests.

Please know that I receive a large number of email inquiries from prospective students every year. While I am happy to read these emails and learn about your interests, I hope you understand that it is infeasible for me to respond to all of them. If you do decide to apply, please send me an email to let me know, and I will make sure to take a close look at your application. Thank you for your understanding.
