iTunes coughed up this little gem this evening, and it rocked my nutz. DJ Ed White is Bootylicious.

Organum Playtest

Filed under: art, games, music, newmedia — ryan @ 11:18 am

A week from today a project I’ve been working on for a while will be installed at a gallery in San Francisco. Please come by!

Please come celebrate the voice from the bottom of the lung to the tip of the tounge with Organum Playtest. The game, based on the Organum movie, is ready to listen and respond to your voice at New Langton Arts Gallery. The installation also features glass etchings with game stills and the original Organum story.

Please note that the exhibit opens on Tuesday, April 19 and remains open every day from 12 noon to 6 pm up to and including Saturday, April 23. Artists talks, an opening reception, and a vocal concert featuring Kid Beyond (Beatbox), Aurora Josephson (Opera), and Seth Augustus (Tuvan Throat Singing) all are scheduled for Saturday, April 23 from noon to about 9:30 PM. After this show, the installation will move to an exhibit in Vancouver in June.

For more information, take a look at the program notes or read about the event at the New Langton Arts website.

Intermediation Trends

Filed under: intermediation — ryan @ 1:54 pm

Sometime around Valentine’s Day of this year, intermediation blew up:

BlogPulse trends for the terms 'autolink,' 'greasemonkey,' and 'ajax'

Update, 4/7/05: The link above used to show a nice graph, which you can still see if you follow the link. I linked directly to the graph image as a kind of experiment to see whether BlogPulse enabled such a thing. Unfortunately, it looks like the graph images are only generated temporarily and the image files disappear after a few days. Too bad–allowing deep linking to their graphs would be a great way to spread word. After all, they have their name and copyright clearly embedded in the image.

amazon2melvyl Update

Filed under: library, tools — ryan @ 11:02 pm

I’ve posted an improved version of the amazon2melvyl script, which automagically adds Melvyl (UC Libraries Catalog) lookup links to linked Amazon items. This new version takes advantage of Greasemonkey’s new XMLHTTPRequest support to look up related ISBNs via OCLC’s xISBN web service, vastly increasing the chance of a successful lookup. It also uses in-line data: URIs for the icons, saving my bandwidth and your privacy (not that there was any snooping going on, but still). Thanks to Jeremy Dunck and Phil Ringnalda for these great suggestions. You can get the new version here.
