Cardiovascular Display for Anesthesiology ========================================= 44k to 98k deaths per year due to human error, often due to instrumentation. Probability of injury increases over time. There are many distractions that take away the anesthesiologist's attention. Traditional display: series of waveforms with numbers, colour-coded to associate numbers with waveforms. Design principles: geometry, transformation, overlapping, separation, intersection, figure-ground, movement, size, location, color, texture, opacity... Did usability testing with anesthesiologists (static image, ask to label parts, ask to label measurements, generate scenarios and ask for diagnosis). Did a performance study with a high-performance METI simulator. Tested 20 anesthesiologists. Handoff procedure to new anesthesiologist. Measured detection time, diagnosis, treatment time. Asked about usefulness of display and realism of simulation.
