14. But There Already Was an "E-Berkeley"
At the end of the semester I discovered that there already was an "E-Berkeley" Program headed by Jon Conhaim
So I proposed in August 2002 to work with the real "E-Berkeley" to introduce “Document Engineering” concepts and methods to it:
Use XML for a stronger architectural foundation
Greater emphasis on reuse of patterns and components
Enable better integration and interoperability between services
Increase productivity and effectiveness of e-Berkeley efforts
Jon Conhaim liked the idea and we began a small project in Fall 2002 with several SIMS graduate students working about 10 hours a week
