13. Document Engineering and the "Electronic University"

  • Assignments and projects to teach Document Engineering perspective on document analysis, data modeling, patterns and reuse in the context of an "electronic university"

  • Applying "build to order" and "marketplace" patterns to the "Dell-iversity"

  • Treat list of courses as "Bill of Materials" assembled by the academic department

  • How does this change the nature and frequency of information exchanges in the "supply chain"

  • What happens to tenure?

  • Model the process of course selection and enrollment using a well-known B2B standard (RosettaNet PIPs) as the patterns for the business transactions

  • Begin the development of an "enterprise data model" for the key entities in the university: course, schedule of classes, student, etc...

  • My "E-Berkeley" projects were effective and fun for the students
