Graduate Student Researcher (12/05-04/06)

- Researched the technical and financial feasibility of kiosk-based telemedicine in rural Africa.
- Conducted fieldwork in Uganda as part of a joint UC Berkeley and Intel team to identify opportunities within the public healthcare system for successful interventions using digital technologies, with a specific focus on the primary care level.
- Completed over 20 interviews and site visits with government officials, private sector companies, rural clinics and technology centers , and local NGOs.
- Researched and summarized literature concerning telemedicine and public health informatics in Africa with an emphasis on rural interventions using kiosk-based or mobile technology solutions.

United Nations Industrial Development Organization - Univeristy of California, Berkeley
United Nations Management of Technology Fellow (2/04-4/05)

-Created proposal and won UN-Berkeley collaborative fellowship to research the role of medical technologies in developing countries.
-Helped lead multidisciplinary fellowship team of students ranging from engineering to business
- Conducted over 50 interviews across all staff levels and dozens of site visits in India and US
- Wrote case research study for UC Berkeley-United Nations conference on one of the only non-profit pharmaceutical/medical device companies in the world (Aurolab)

- Analyzed the barriers to using open source software in the new 441 shared computing platform in emerging markets.
- Conducted a cost/benefit analysis of creating a Microsoft Windows version of the 441 shared computing platform.
- Examined the social and political factors likely to affect the adoption of the 441 shared computing platform in Africa.
- Co-authored the report "A Technology Roadmap for the 441 shared computing platform" and presented the results to the Emerging Market Solutions management team.
